Our local authority client in North West London is recruiting a Youth Offending Team Officer: To reduce offending by those already involved in the criminal justice system and to reduce the risk of harm to the community. To minimise risk and increase the impact of positive factors, to improve access to services and opportunities to increase the life chances of young people, and to encourage young people to take responsibility for their actions and make reparation to the community who have been negatively impacted on by these actions:

Responsibilities:
To supervise the statutory orders that children and young people become subject to that are the responsibility of the Youth Offending Service. To ensure the sentence of the court is complied with and use enforcement processes in cases where young people do not comply with their court orders:

Qualification – Essential

GCSE Grade A-C (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics
Qualification in social work, probation, youth and community work, health, education OR relevant degree and experience of working with children and young people
Valid driving licence and access to the use of a motor vehicle
Advanced – Microsoft; Word, PowerPoint, – Excel & Outlook – Case management system – Essential

Skills, Abilities & Experience – Essential

Experience of direct work with challenging and hard to engage children and young people
Knowledge of direct work with offenders
Experience of working within a statutory framework
Knowledge of the causes of crime and effective practice in intervening to reduce offending and anti-social behaviour by young people
Knowledge of safeguarding children issues, Every Child Matters, Children Act 2004, and the Pan London Child Protection procedures
Knowledge of the youth justice system, Crime and Disorder Act 1998, Youth Justice Board National Standards and the Criminal Justice Act 2003.
Knowledge of the assessment and management of risk in terms of dangerousness, reoffending and vulnerability
Ability to be available outside regular hours in exceptional or planned circumstances, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays appropriate to the demands of the job
Ability to travel
Able to provide Five Years of references – essential
Enhanced DBS on the update system – essential
