Our local authority client in North West London is recruiting a Youth Justice Liaison and Diversion Worker:
To support and improve the early identification in the youth justice system of young people -up to age 18- with mental health problems, neuro-developmental issues, conduct disorder, learning difficulties, disabilities or other vulnerabilities. To reduce the use of custody for vulnerable young people and other over-represented groups in the youth justice system through effective screening and linkage with appropriate early and needs led intervention:

Responsibilities:
To screen and assess all children and young people who are detained at the Police Station, to assess whether they require further support with any emotional, mental health, learning or social needs.

Qualification – Essential

GCSE Grade A-C (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics
RMN-Clinical Psychology-Family Therapy qualification or degree relevant experience
CAMHS and preferably with experience of working with young people who have offended
Knowledge of ASSET-ASSETPlus
Advanced – Microsoft; Word, PowerPoint, – Excel & Outlook – – essential
Skills, Abilities & Experience – Essential

Knowledge of legislation, policy and practice guidance, in particular, the frameworks for protection and support for children and young people presenting with high risks and vulnerabilities
Knowledge of relevant youth justice and Police legislation
Good understanding of the professional duty of CARE, to protect where clients present’s a risk to themselves or others and comply with the Children Act 1989 and Hidden Harm guidelines
Experience of undertaking complex assessments of a young person’s health, emotional and social needs
Experience of working in a community or outreach setting, with young offenders with Health, Emotional and social needs
Experience of working within multi-agency frameworks; preferably creating and maintaining referral pathways to other agencies
Sound knowledge of assessment and intervention approaches as applied to adolescents with emotional and behavioural difficulties
Experienced supporting young people from abuse and neglect backgrounds, developmental trauma, deliberate self-harm, risk-taking, offending and substance misuse
Capacity not only to complete screenings and assessments but then to analyse the information, evaluate results and choose the best approach to address problems and manage risks
The ability to forge professional pathways and support young people into accessing community-based provisions
Knowledge and understanding of the range of interventions applied to children and young people to assist in facilitating changes in their lives
Proven experience of writing reports, attend meetings, presentations on a one-to-one basis
Able to provide Five Years of references – essential
